The gymectrify
The product that I made is an application of a generator in a different way. I believe that people can utilize the energy they are using in the gym, so I planned a way for people to generate electricity by connecting my product to the machines. My product, also known as the Gymectrify, is made to be adapted into machines to take the mechanical energy and to convert it into electricity. By spinning the rotor inside the generator around copper coils, it will generate electricity that will be outputted to the gym's electrical system or even to batteries that the facility can use for daily use.
Primary Research: (process)
Since I am not doing an event, there was no need to make a survey, like the rest of my classmates. Instead, I made a product, so in order to make my product, I had to understand how to use circuits and the basics of electrical engineering. I planned to achieve this knowledge through my mentor, who has a major in electrical engineering. He was a great source of information and he provided all the necessary steps to make my product. He not only did that, but also explained each step extensively and made sure I understood each step before moving on to the next. I previously had a minimal understanding of this topic, but after my mentor's explanation, I came to a deeper understanding.
Building process
Though what you see above looks very simple, the idea behind my product is to use a generator in different ways, so there is more than one type of product that can be built. Also, the table that is in the previous page gives numbers to go along and shows you the average amount (in tons) of carbon dioxide, which is ~550, that can be reduced from the carbon footprint of a well-used gym facility.
